Hello! I'm megan (you can call me meg). I'm currently studying for my diploma. During my free time, I like to volunteer at an animal shelter.
I have 2 dogs(1 under foster from the shelter). My dog is Duke, a male Singapore Special. I adopted him from the shelter with my family and it's been blast since. My foster dog, Rylee is a senior Singapore Special with many health conditions. I’ve had dogs since I was 5 years old so i have lots of hands on experience with both pure breeds and rescues.
My family has also done rescue work for cats, doing TNR for them a few years back and fostering the sick ones. I have experience in caring for newborn kittens as well.
I've gained a lot of experiences as a dog walker from walking the many dogs at the shelter, from the easy ones to the energetic thuggish ones. I've learnt a lot from others and done plenty of research online. I prefer to use positive reinforcement when working with animals, like treats, verbal praises and pets! I also tend to put myself in the shoes of the animals I handle to understand why they are acting the way they are, and I try my best to make their experience stress free and fun(and of course teaching/showing how to walk on leash properly, etc)
I recently attended a shelter first aid course organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic and I've learnt the theory on dog behaviour/language. I also learnt how to deal with open wounds and have experienced cleaning animal wounds countless of times.
A typical walk would last 30-45 minutes, depending on your dog’s needs and your expectations. As mentioned above, I have experience on dogs who can get reactive to other dogs/humans/bicycles etc. and will definitely keep a lookout for such triggers to make the walk as stress-free and pleasant.
If I am visiting your place to check on your dog/cat or house sitting, i’ll make sure to clean up after your dog and entertain your dog so they’re not bored at home. i’ll take photos and give updates as frequent as you would like to ensure you know what’s up with your pup at home (: If there’s any bad habits you would like me to reinforce (like not jumping on the couch etc.), feel free to let me know as well!
I look forward to meeting your pet and I’m sure we’ll have a great time together! (:
