About Jason
Heyo, I'm Jason. I have about four years of experience catsitting, and my lifelong obsession with biology and zoology is the backbone of my approach to caring for cats!
I currently live with my 6-year old Domestic Shorthair, Miko, who I've cared for for the past three years. In addition, I live with four other housemates with their own cats. As my housemates travel quite frequently, I have spent the past few years making friends with their own cats while caring for them in their owners' absence -- and subsequently discovered that I have a knack for it.
Here's what I bring to the table:
A Science-Based Approach to Cat Care
I've been a zoology nerd for as long as I remember, and my understanding of what makes various animals tick has always been the basis of my approach to cat care.
Cats are small, obligate carnivores. Even though they are highly-evolved predators, their size makes them vulnerable to many creatures higher up the food chain. As a result, they are sensitive, wary of the unfamiliar, and have a very high hunting drive.
I make it a point to ensure that any cat under my care doesn't just get fed, watered, cuddled, and their litter-box cleaned. They're probably already anxious that you are away, so slowly building trust and boundaries with them through positive reinforcement, non-threatening body language, and ensuring that they receive lots of enrichment through playtime is super important to make them comfortable in your absence!
Clear, Concise Communication
I used to work in a client-facing role in the media industry, and therefore understand the importance of open communication. Expect frequent updates, lots of photos and videos of your cat, and detailed reports about how your cat is doing while you are away.
My Own Tools
As a cat owner myself, I come well-equipped with churru sticks, toys, and nutritious treats (I mainly use Feline Natural Freeze-Dried).
My Services
What I Can Do:
Cleaning of your cat's litterbox (including washing the entire litterbox once a week, cleaning of the surrounding area, litter replacement, pee pad replacement, etc)
Feeding
Lots of playtime and enrichment (Don't be surprised if your cat ends up learning new tricks after you return!)
Brushing and Basic Grooming (ear and eye cleaning only)
Vaccuming your floor and furniture (believe me, I know how much cats shed)
1 hour Visits
3x Visits (Listed as 2x visits on my page as Pawshake doesn't offer 3x visits for some weird reason)
Overnight Stay (Strictly subject to my availability - my own cat needs my care too!)
What I Can't Do:
Clip your cat's claws - unfortunately, I am not a professional cat groomer, and cats can get quite distressed from having their paws touched by a stranger. Please do clip your kitty's murder mittens before you leave!
Medicine Administration - I am comfortable with administering medication ONLY if it involves mixing them into your cat's food. Any other forms of medical care such as injections and inhaler administration should be handled by a certified vet.
